A3L were tasked to install a solution for linishing layout pins for a local tool manufacturer. The pins required two operations. An edging operation and then a facing operation. A3L were instructed to use a second-hand ABB robot to reduce capital cost. It was installed inside a safety fence with a bespoke safety system to ensure operator safety and programmed to complete the required operations.

The robot was the company’s first robot and so was a huge undertaking, but the project has delivered above and beyond expectation. One of the main benefits that was not expected was it has allowed the company to really get a grip of their inventory. Before the cell there was continuous firefighting scenario moving the team around to meeting customer demands. The robot cell was expected to assist in the delivery and management of pin manufacture but it has also help with all stock because it has freed up workers to focus on the other products ensuring that all stock levels are maintained much more effectively.
